What Is The Highest League In Duolingo?

A very competitive approach to challenge yourself to master a language on Duolingo more quickly than ever before is Duolingo Leagues.

Leagues are a terrific method to push yourself forward if you want to learn more quickly and gain XP along the road.

How many leagues exist in the world of Duolingo? Which is the highest league of them all? And, most importantly, how can you reach it?

In this article, we’ll teach you how to proceed from one league to the next, how to conquer the Diamond league, and what happens if you make it there and what is the highest league in Duolingo.

So, let’s get started.

What Is A Duolingo League?

A Duolingo league is a leaderboard with 30 randomly selected players from all website platforms each week.

Every class a person engages in earns them certain amounts of XP, which is used to rank them in the leagues.

At the conclusion of each week, the player with the most experience points will be placed at the top of the scoreboard, receive a good amount of gem rewards, and advance to the following league.

Those who make it to the Top 10 of their league will also get promoted to the next league, but only those in the Top 3 will receive gems.

Those from 4th place downwards won’t receive anything, other than a promotion (providing they are in the Top 10).

The participants who place 11th to 25th will stay in the league that they were already in, while those 26th and lower will get demoted to the league below the one that they were currently in.

On the Duolingo app, the Leagues are located under the shield symbol, but you won’t have the chance to join the leagues if you haven’t finished enough lessons in Duolingo (see also ‘How To Join A Class On Duolingo‘).

You should be able to see the icon once you have finished around ten lessons.

How To Advance Through Duolingo Leagues

The only way to advance to higher leagues is to play regularly, and earn as much XP as you possibly can.

The lower leagues you are in, the easier it will be to advance, as less XP is required to advance. Once you start reaching the higher leagues, you will need to put in more effort to advance to the next levels.

A helpful tip to keep in mind is to not log into Duolingo during the early hours of the day.

You will be placed into a random league based on an algorithm, which places you into groups with people who are logging into the app at the same time as you.

The people who log into the app early in the day are more likely to be avid members of Duolingo, so you’ll have less of a chance of beating them if you are placed in the same group as them.

Wait until later on in the day, and then log in. Then, you should be placed into a group with players who aren’t as competitive, and it will be easier for you to make the Top 10 of the league.

You should also participate in timed challenges, such as lightning rounds and match madness, to earn those extra XPs.

Perfect Lessons will also earn you additional points, so this is a great incentive for you to work harder at your lessons!

The Cut-Off Times For Duolingo Leagues

The Duolingo Leagues expire on Monday at midnight (12 am) UTC. The leagues will then be refreshed, and you will be assigned to a new league with fresh players.

You will either be promoted, relegated, or left to continue in your current league depending on how much XP you earned that week.

The Leagues Of Duolingo

Currently, Duolingo offers 10 leagues.

All language modules follow the same leagues, so you will be playing in the same 10 leagues as every other user of Duolingo, regardless of which language or languages you are learning.

The 10 leagues, in order of lowest to highest, are as follows:

  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Sapphire
  • Ruby
  • Emerald
  • Amethyst
  • Pearl
  • Obsidian
  • Diamond

Which Is The Highest League In Duolingo?

As we mentioned in the previous section, the highest league of all the 10 Duolingo leagues is the Diamond League.

It can be very difficult to reach the Diamond league, but it is achievable with some hard work and plenty of hours dedicated to the app.

To prevent being demoted back to the Obsidian league, you will need to take a lot more lessons than usual because XP totals are typically very high in the Diamond League, frequently in the thousands.

Unlike the other 9 leagues, there is no promotion for earning a place in the Top 10 of the Diamond League.

This is because it is the highest league of all, and there is no other league above it. The best you can do is remain in Diamond, as there is no way to get promoted.

However, the Diamond Tournament – a three-week competition in which you must place in the top 10 – is open to those who placed in the top 10 of the Diamond League.

You receive a piece of the Diamond for each week you place in the top 10, and you win the tournament if you manage to earn all three pieces.

What Happens When You Reach The Highest League In Duolingo?

If you manage to get into the Top 3, or even come first place in Diamond League, you will win some gems, along with achievement.

You also win the honor that comes along with actually making it to the Diamond League, let alone winning it. This is something that not many players get to reach, so you should be proud of yourself if you ever actually get there!

Final Thoughts

Gaining a place in the Diamond league is a huge accomplishment, and is not reached by the average user of Duolingo. If you manage to get there, you should be proud of yourself!

If you haven’t gotten there yet, you will need to put more hours into your lessons and try to earn some extra XP.

The most important thing is that you learn your language, and become more fluent as time goes on. The points and leagues are a bonus!
