How Many Languages Does Skillshare Support?

Skillshare is an online learning platform that offers courses in a range of subjects and creative skills in the class details section. Currently, most Skillshare courses are taught in English.

However, teachers are allowed to upload courses to Skillshare in any language they feel comfortable in.

In an effort to make the learning platform more global, Skillshare classes are improving subtitling and translation for online courses in English and are one of the few online learning platforms that have other class creator sections too.

Learners can now access subtitles in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German on any English-language video lessons.

Discover exactly what languages are available, and how to access them, with this guide to Skillshare languages.

Although the language options for Skillshare online learning community are currently limited in other languages, this looks set to change in the near future!

What Languages Are Skillshare Courses Available In?

Skillshare allows teachers to upload courses in any language, although the majority of the platform uses English. You can learn more about this information here.

Teachers are welcome to add a course in any language they feel comfortable teaching.

Skillshare is particularly interested in adding Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German courses.

Skillshare is aiming to become a global learning platform, and part of that involves offering courses in a range of languages.

At the moment, most courses are taught in English. However, to improve accessibility, Skillshare provides multi-language subtitling for videos in English.

English language course material is also translated into multiple languages. These languages are Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German.

Skillshare is currently working on localizing its non-English language courses.

This involves adding multi-language subtitles to videos and providing written material in different languages. Currently, Skillshare is targeting courses in four non-English languages: Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German.

At the moment, learners do have limited choices for non-English courses.

But Skillshare is aiming to improve its language offerings greatly, and teachers shouldn’t feel obliged to post in English in the creative community.

What Languages Is The Skillshare Website Available In?

Skillshare is making an effort to go global, and the website and app is now available in four languages addition to English to improve new skills.

These languages are Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German.

Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German online learners will now find it easier to navigate the website and subscribe to courses.

Skillshare English language courses will also be available with subtitles in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German.

This widens the range of courses available for learners, helping Skillshare to reach a global audience.

There’s good news for teachers as well. Skillshare communications, including emails and the Skillshare Instructor Help Center, are now also available in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German, as well as English.

This is excellent for global learners, as it will make it easier for non-English speakers to upload their own courses.

Skillshare Subtitles

Skillshare Subtitles

All English language Skillshare courses are available with subtitles in five languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German.

These subtitles allow global learners easier access to the Skillshare platform, and can also benefit learners with hearing impairments.

To enable subtitles while watching a video on the desktop site, click on the speech bubble icon located in the lower right corner of the video.

Select your preferred language, and the subtitles should come on.

To enable subtitles while watching a video on the iOS app, select the … in the upper right corner to access the settings menu. Select Subtitles, and then choose your preferred language.

To enable subtitles while watching a video on the Android app, select the speech bubble icon in the upper right corner. This will turn the subtitles on and off.

Subtitles are automatically generated by Skillshare, and it can take up to seven days after a course is published for subtitles to appear.

Skillshare instructors are able to edit their own subtitles (for improved accuracy) but currently, edits are only offered in English.

How To Change Your Language Preference On Skillshare

There are multiple ways to change your language setting on Skillshare. Learners are able to view Skillshare in five different languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German.

On the desktop site, you can change your language settings using the globe icon located in the upper right corner. Click on the globe, and select the language you want.

Alternatively, navigate to the bottom of the homepage. Click on the globe icon in the lower right corner, to bring up a list of languages.

You can also change languages under your skillshare account settings. Go to your account setting, select languages, and update your preference.

Will Skillshare Offer More Language Options In The Future?

Yes, Skillshare is planning to offer more language options in the future. Skillshare is aiming to become a truly global learning platform, and part of that is offering more courses in multiple languages.

Currently, skillshare teachers are able to upload a course in the language of their choosing.

English language courses automatically generate subtitles in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German, and course material is automatically translated into these languages.

Skillshare aims to repeat this localization process with courses initially taught in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German.

However, it might be a little while before this service is completely rolled out.

Skillshare community currently has over 30,000 courses, and that number is set to grow. Even automatically generated subtitles take time to create!

While translation efforts may take some time, Skillshare is currently happy to accept courses in any language.

Is Skillshare A Good Platform For Learning Other Languages?

Skillshare is a decent platform for language learning, offering a large range of courses. However, it isn’t a specialist language learning site.

If you’re looking for advanced courses and more specialist language learning, you may be better off with a language-specific learning platform.

Summary

Although Skillshare might be primarily an English language learning platform, there are increased efforts toward globalization for other skillshare members.

You can have unlimited access to skillshare premium membership as access skillshare class.

Skillshare currently provides automatic subtitling in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German on all English language videos and courses.

Teachers are also encouraged to upload videos in their preferred language. There might be fewer options, but non-English learners can still enjoy using Skillshare.
