Teachable is a great tool for sharing knowledge without the limitations of distance.

You can reach hundreds of students worldwide, all of whom will be interested in what you have to share. 

But, when you first get started with Teachable’s business plan, it can be tricky to know where to begin.

You’ll likely have so many questions about setting up your account and creating your various online courses.

This can feel a bit overwhelming at first.

How Many Students Can I Have In My Class?

We’ll answer this question under the presumption that you’re signed up for Teachable’s free plan, which allows you to use the website without needing to pay a monthly fee. 

With the Teachable basic plan, there is an unlimited cap on the number of students you can teach on your course.

You can have as many students as you like to sign up, and there’s no need to set a limit. 

This is great if you’ve dreamt of reaching a lot of people with your course, as you could even find yourself teaching thousands of students at once. 

What Are The Benefits Of The Free Plan? 

So, if you’ve decided to sign up to Teachable, you’ll see that when you first log on to their website, they’ll ask you if you’d like to create a free account or a paid plan.

If you choose the free plan, the obvious benefit is that you get to reach a wider audience.

You can teach an unlimited number of students, and get more recognition for your course.

The more people that sign up for your course, the more popular you’ll become, and then you can eventually consider making your course payable with a fee. 

With the free version, you’re able to create as many Teachable courses as you like, so you can really get creative and enjoy developing your work.

Bear in mind, however, that with the free version, you can only upload one course at a time, despite being able to make as many as you want. 

Another great feature of the Teachable free plan is the number of videos you can upload.

For each of the unlimited courses that you can create, you can create up to 10 videos.

This is called an ‘enrollment cap’.

So, if this is something you’re interested in, keep reading below to find out some of the key benefits, as well as how to set up a paid account. 

If you decide to upgrade, you’ll witness a whole host of different benefits.

One of the key benefits is that it gives you access to Teachable API, which shows you how to make your courses a success, guiding you through different steps you can take to improve your work. 

In addition to this, there are a number of different features that can benefit both you and your students, and create a more interactive and personalized experience.

Some of these include pop quizzes that you can generate for those in attendance, as well as live chat support, so students can message you with any questions. 

You can also create group tutoring sessions.

So, if a few students are struggling with a particular area of the course, or simply have some things they would like to discuss with you, they can do so in these live sessions.

How Do I Sign Up To The Paid Plan?

Now that we’ve discussed some of the benefits of both the free and paid version of Teachable, we can move on to discuss how you can sign up for the paid plan. 

As we mentioned briefly above, the paid plan is an excellent option if you’ve been using the free version for a while, and have built up a following with your students.

You can start making your course into a real business with the paid version, and you have complete control over the course fee, as well as the number of students admitted. 

To create your own paid Teachable account, keep reading to find out how below. 

1. Find The Pricing Tab 

To start creating your paid Teachable plan, you’ll need to navigate the pricing tab on the website.

This should be located on the top right corner of your course page. 

Simply click on this, then select ‘add pricing plan’, which will bring you to the course fee that you’d like to set for your students. 

You will then be asked to choose a payment plan that you’d like to set for your future courses.

These course fees can be paid in a number of different ways. 

Some people will opt to make a ‘one-time payment’ option for their students, which means that they’ll pay the fee upfront, and then be able to enjoy the classes without any extra payments later down the line. 

Others will choose to have their students pay a subscription fee, which means that they will be required to pay on either a weekly or a monthly basis.

Your students can also enjoy a prolonged payment plan if you allow it. 

2. Set Your Enrollment

The next step will be to set how many people you’d like to allow in your classes.

As we mentioned above, there is no limit to how many students you can have in your Teachable class. 

However, the main reason why people create a paid account is so that they can charge their students a fee for attendance, as well as limit the number of people that can sign up. 

Limiting the number of students that can sign up for your class, helps to create a sense of urgency, and will get people to sign up faster for fear of missing out. 

You can also click on the ‘show sales count option’, which tells your students how many seats are left in your class. 

3. Create Pricing Plan Details

Then, you’ll need to create your pricing plan details.

This is essentially a bio for your class, and should primarily include details about enrollment within your classes.

You should tell your students the price of the class, as well as some of the different payment options available to them (be that a lump sum, or a subscription fee). 

You should also stress the fact that there are a limited number of seats available in the class, and sign up early on to make sure that they secure a space. 

Enrollment Cap Limit 

Some of you might be wondering what happens when the maximum number of students allowed has signed up for your class.

How does it show up for those who have failed to secure a seat? 

Well, once the cap limit has been reached for the number of students in your class, it will essentially be archived.

This will essentially prevent anyone in the future from trying to purchase one of your payment plans for that particular course. 

How To Edit Enrollment Number

This is a question that many people ask when it comes to setting an enrollment cap on Teachable.

Can I edit the number of students admitted? 

The answer to this question is yes! Absolutely. Many people notice that when they create a course admittance cap on teachable, they have more interest than they initially prepared for.

Perhaps you’ve noticed that a lot of students have missed out, and are disappointed that they can’t attend your course. 

If you gauge that there is enough interest, you can absolutely alter the enrollment number for your course.

This is actually an incredibly easy process, and you can choose to change it at any time. 

In order to change the enrollment number on your Teachable course, simply navigate to the enrollment cap option on the pricing page. 

After you’ve done this, you can go ahead and click on the field that says ‘number of enrollments available’, then alter the number to however many more students you’d like to make your course available to. 

When you do this, make sure that you keep in mind the students who have already enrolled in your course.

When you alter the admittance number, you’ll need to factor in the people who have already signed up.

So, let’s say you want to add an extra fifty people to your course, and 100 people have already signed up, you’ll need to set the limit to 150 students. 

Bear in mind also that you can not lower the number of people admitted to your course.

So, if you’ve set the limit to 100 people, you can’t alter this number to make it any lower afterward. 

Can I Remove the Enrollment Cap? 

If you decide that the interest in your course is large enough that you’d prefer to allow unlimited students, you can absolutely do so. 

In order to do this, simply follow the same steps outlined above, by navigating the enrollment cap option under the pricing section. 

After you’ve done this, find the section which says ‘number of enrollments available’, then deselect the number you’ve already set.

This will toggle the number, and you’ll be able to include as many people as you’d like in your course. 

This won’t affect the price that you’ve set for the course, people will still need to pay the same fee even with an unlimited number of students. 

Can I Go Back To The Free Version? 

Some of you who have decided to take your Teachable business plan to the next level may have found that it was too early to do so and that you’d like to return to the free version. 

This is absolutely possible and is easy to navigate.

If you want to switch your plan from a paid version to the free one, simply click on the ‘plan’ option under settings. 

If you want to downgrade your plan, simply click the ‘cancel plan’ option, which will effectively remove your paid version and return it to the original free version.

Before you’re able to cancel, you’ll see a window that gives you a list of all of the features you’ll be missing out on when you downgrade. 

As we mentioned previously, you’re not able to promote products, create basic quizzes, do live tutorials, or make course coupons with the free version.

Teachable will remind you of all of these things to make sure you’re happy to cancel. 

If you want to continue, simply click ‘cancel plan’ again on the pop-up window, and then share the reason you’d like to cancel.

Teachable will give you a number of options to select from as your reason, but if it doesn’t apply, there is an ‘other’ option, which allows you to elaborate even further if need be.
