How to Create an Assignment in Google classroom
So, now that you have a much better understanding of how you can use Google Classroom to help organize your teaching programs for your students – we are now going to be showing you how you can easily use Google to create your very own assignments.
Even though it can seem a little confusing and complicated at first, creating assignments in Google Classroom is actually pretty simple.
Below, let’s take a closer look at how you can go about easily creating your very own assignments for your students through this Google teaching platform:
Step One
First things first, you are going to need to begin by signing in to Google Classroom to access your account.
If you do not currently have a Google Classroom account, then you are going to need to take the time to do this in order to access the platform and begin creating your assignments.
Step Two
After you have signed into your account (or created one) you are then going to be ready to head over to the “Class” area of the platform.
Once you get here, go ahead and hover your mouse over the “+” and then tap on “Create assignment”.
Step Three
Once you have tapped on “Create assignment” you are then going to be prompted by Google to create a document title as well as include any optional instructions for the assignment that you are wanting to create for your specific students.
Step Four
After you have done this and created the assignment, you will then be able to prompt your students to begin working on the assignment that you have set.
As you will have already included the timeframe in which they will need to complete this assignment, you won’t need to do anything else.
How to Change an Assignment Due Date
Now that you have gained an idea of how to create a basic assignment for your students, it is worth noting that there might be some instances where you might need to adjust the timeframe in which the assignment has been set to be completed.
By default on this platform, Google will automatically set your assignment to be completed by the next day.
Naturally, there is a strong chance that you will likely want to give your students a little longer to be able to research and spend time completing your assignments to the best of their ability, so you’re going to need to also know how to adjust the timeframe that you are giving your students on Google Classroom for their assignments, too.
Let’s take a look at how you can change the due date for the assignments that you create for your students below:
Step One
Once you have created your assignment, Google will automatically set the assignment’s due date to the very next day.
For this reason, you are likely going to find yourself needing to change the assignment due date to allow your students a reasonable amount of time to actually complete the assignment without being rushed.
To do this, start by tapping on the arrow directly next to “Due Tomorrow”.
Step Two
After you have tapped on the down arrow, you will instantly be met with a drop-down menu that will contain a date and a time.
To begin adjusting the timeframe that you are going to be giving your students to complete the assignment, you can tap on the date and select the appropriate date that you want them to complete the assignment by.
Step Three
Then, once you have completed adjusting the date, you can also go ahead and set a specific time for the assignment to be turned in, too.
However, keep in mind that setting a time is entirely optional and not a requirement in Google.
As a side note, you also have the option of not setting any due date if you do not want to.
As we have already mentioned above, Google will automatically set every assignment that is created within the platform to a due date of the “next day” by default.
So, if you would like to create an assignment that does not come with a due date, then you are going to need to tap on “due date” and press “X” to signify to Google that you want the assignment to not have a due date or specified time frame for completion.
How to Insert Additional Resources and Attachments to an Assignment
Now that you have a much better understanding of how you can go about creating an assignment in Google Classroom app, you might also be wondering whether or not you can add any additional materials or resources for your students to use when completing their assignments.

The good news is that you can add additional learning materials and resources to your assignments to help enrich your students’ learning. Let’s take a look at how you can do that below:
Step One
If you would like to upload an additional learning material or resource to the assignment that you are creating for your students, you are going to need to begin by tapping on “Upload a File” inside Google .
From there, you will be prompted by Google to choose a file. Once you have chosen a file that you want to insert into the assignment, tap on “Upload.”
Step Two
After you have uploaded the same file that you want to include in the assignment as supporting learning materials – you will then also need to decide what type of access you want your students to have.
You can choose between the following permissions: Students can view files or Students can edit files.
Step Three
After you have decided which type of file access you want to provide your students with for the additional learning materials that you are going to be supplying, you are then going to need to decide whether or not you want your students to receive a copy of the file if they are allowed to edit.
In Google Classroom, if you allow your students to have full editing rights of the files that you share, you will be prompted by Google to decide whether or not you want the students to each receive an individual copy of the file if they decide to edit file.
