How Does Udemy’s Sales Work?
Udemy always has courses on sale. You’ve undoubtedly seen the timed sales with courses for sale for $10.
These prices are way more appealing than some of the $199 courses you can find on Udemy.
When you first go on the site, you’ll often find that the expensive course was at the sales price.
When Udemy says they’re on sale, you’ll see a countdown clock and some kind of marketing slogan.
They use urgency marketing to get customers to buy their courses. When you see the course price increase, you need to realize that it’s not that price.
Just open up a new window in incognito, and you’ll see the price change back to its cheapest version.

What is Urgency Marketing?

I briefly touched upon Udemy using urgency marketing to get customers to buy their courses.
But what is urgency marketing? Well, it’s a highly utilized marketing strategy that numerous businesses use.
The way it works is that the site will apply more urgency to show that a product is only there for a limited time and that it should act fast.
It’s why you’ll see timers on the banners at the top of Udemy to tell you to hurry and buy as soon as possible.
Using urgency marketing, the customers will feel compelled to make a purchase.
While it does feel like a trick, you can’t deny that it works incredibly well, especially for a site like Udemy.
But the good news is that you can see how it works when you go into Incognito mode on your chosen browser.
How Does Incognito Bring the Prices Down?
If you’re worried about missing a sale, then incognito mode can help you. Most browsers have an incognito mode to prevent tracking cookies from showing.
That way, you’ll see the original sales price, and you can buy with ease.
However, you don’t just have to go on incognito mode. Clearing your cache or cookies will help too.
Once you clear your tracking cookies, Udemy will think that you’re a brand new customer and will just show you the sales price upon entry.
If you see any prices over $100, you should know that Udemy has artificially raised the price.
By heading into the incognito mode or cleaning your cache, you should be able to see how they’ve done this.

Although, I should probably warn you in advance that you probably won’t see these low prices all the time.
It’s a great way to see how their sales system works, but once you register, they’ll know that you aren’t a first-time visitor.
You might snag one course that you may have missed before.
But that’s not to say that Udemy doesn’t have sales. They still have the usual sales and promotions that you would find in most businesses.
When Are Udemy Sales On?
Even though they have courses always on sale, you won’t always find that those low prices will always appear.
Instead, you can always rely on the ongoing sales that occur each month. Let’s go through a list of deals they’ll inevitably have.
In January, there will be a variety of site-wide discounts to celebrate the New Year. In February, they have sales for Valentine’s Day, that you can either gift or be gifted by a loved one.
In March, they’ll have some kind of flash sale for a few days, but it won’t be as large as other months.
April is Education month, so you’ll be able to see a host of courses become available. Then, there are Mother’s Day courses in May, but this isn’t site-wide.
It will only be available for a limited number of courses, all for gifting your mother a course for the occasion.
June is the official mid-point of the year, so you’ll see that they will have sales to celebrate the mid-year madness.
July is the start of the Summer holidays, so they’ll want to get plenty of courses on sale while the students are bored.
Then, this will be followed by the August back to school sales, so students can take advantage of getting a step up in their learning.
After this, you won’t see any sales in September, the only month where there aren’t any sales going on.
After the absence of sales in September, October will have some courses to start to signal towards the end of the year.
These happen throughout the site. Once it hits this month, keep an eye on November’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales to prepare for Christmas.
Then you know that the Christmas and Boxing Day sales will end this month’s sales event until it starts again in the New Year.

Final Thoughts
As you can see, Udemy does have sales all year round. If you see any prices over $100, you should know that it’s most likely been artificially inflated for you.
It’s just a way to get urgency marketing to work, so just head on incognito to revert it to its original price.
But you shouldn’t do this for every expensive course, which might not always work.
