Which Is Better Udemy Or Skillshare? 2025 Comparison

E-learning has made it easier than ever before to learn new skills and information. These online learning platforms are becoming increasingly popular thanks to the convenience that they offer to customers. You can study whenever you want!

Two of the most popular online learning platforms are Skillshare and Udemy. Though Skillshare arguably has the better reputation, Udemy is the more popular site.

But the question is which is better Udemy or Skillshare? This guide will help you to make up your mind

What Is Udemy?

Udemy is one of the largest learning communities with millions of users and thousands of courses. It also provides these courses in over 70 languages, allowing people from all over the world to use Udemy.

Having been founded in 2010, Udemy has become a leader in the e-learning industry.

What Is Skillshare?

Our second contender is Skillshare. This widely-used online learning platform allows people to develop skills through instructional videos. Based in the US, Skillshare has been around since 2010.

Though the community has a wide assortment of videos, the skills are often based on arts and technology.

Udemy vs Skillshare

Which Is Better: Udemy Or Skillshare?

Now that you know a little more about these two online learning communities, let’s get to the point!

To determine which is the best platform, we’ve broken down these two platforms into some of the main qualities that you will look for when learning online.

Cost

Moreover, Skillshare provides a free trial that allows you to experience the platform. If you enjoy using it, you can pay to use Skillshare full-time.

With Skillshare, you can either pay monthly or annually, with the annual option being more affordable in the long run.

These different membership tiers give people increased flexibility and allow people to find the membership tier that works for them.

For Udemy, the cost of the courses varies. This is because the price is set by the instructor. While some courses are under $30, some will be more than $100. As a result, the value for money can seriously vary.

The good news is that Udemy has regular sales that allow you to find some brilliant bargains.

We prefer the price model for Skillshare since it offers a more consistent price. Yet, if you are looking to make use of sales, Udemy can be an outstanding option.

Courses

Both Skillshare and Udemy have an impressive selection of courses that cover a broad spectrum of topics.

With Skillshare, you can easily choose the skill level for a course. There are three options, namely beginner, intermediate, or advanced. Udemy has a similar structure, whereby you can easily search and filter courses.

With both platforms, anyone can create a course. This means that the quality of the instructors can vary significantly. After all, the instructors can have different levels of experience and expertise in the field.

However, on Udemy instructors have to at least prove their identity first, which we view as an advantage.

In terms of quality, Skillshare tends to have the upper hand. This is because many of these courses have been created by known businesses, thus ensuring that they are of high quality.

Reputation

Skillshare is perhaps better known than Udemy. Interestingly, however, Udemy has a larger number of users.

As a result, it can be hard to know whether the reputation of Skillshare or Udemy is better. However, if we had to pick one, we would argue that Skillshare has a better reputation.

Ease Of Use

When searching for a learning community, you will want one that is intuitive and user-friendly. Otherwise, you may struggle to fully use the platform.

Setting up an account with both communities is super simple. All you will need to do is provide basic information about yourself, such as your email address. With Skillshare, you can even create an account through social media.

While Udemy and Skillshare both have incredible interfaces, we would say that Udemy is a little easier to use thanks to a slick and modern design.

Certificates

Undergoing some of these courses can be extremely useful as you can not only pick up skills but also certificates. These certificates are amazing additions to your resume, as they can make you seem more skilled and professional.

Unfortunately, there are no formal qualifications available on either site. On the other hand, Udemy offers certificates (see also our guide to displaying your Udemy certificate on LinkedIn) that you can easily print off, which is a nice bonus for people who complete courses.

While this is not available for free courses, the idea of providing certificates is a great way of making customers feel accomplished. As a result, we think that Udemy is superior to Skillshare in this case.

Languages

Udemy offers courses in a much wider range of languages than Skillshare. This platform even offers subtitles in a limited range of languages, such as French and German.

This allows people to watch English instructional videos even if this is not their native language.

So when it comes to the range of languages on offer Udemy is the clear winner.

Customer Support

Having incredible customer support service is important for any website. However, one could argue that it’s particularly vital for learning platforms since this can affect a person’s education.

Udemy has a dedicated page that allows customers to search for answers to their questions. While this site is useful, it doesn’t feel very personable.

Though Udemy does have an email address dedicated to customer service, you might have to wait a while to receive a response.

In contrast, Skillshare’s customer service is sensational. You can easily email the service to get a quick response.

From our experience, this customer support is cordial and helpful. Though Skillshare also provides some guides, they are more simplistic thanks to Udemy.

Final Thoughts

Determining which of these two learning platforms is tough because they provide similar services at comparable levels of quality.

Yet, if we had to pick one, we would choose Skillshare thanks to its stellar range of courses, sensational customer service, standard price structure, and simplicity.
