Udemy VS Linkedin Learning: Which is Better

Developing a new skill is a great way of helping you to stand out in the job market. By mentioning a newly acquired skill on your resume, you can set yourself apart from other applicants.

An online learning platform is perhaps the best way of learning a new skill or learning more about a different topic.

After all, they are simple to use and allow users to have a flexible learning schedule. Plus, you can learn from the comfort of your home!

Two of the most popular online learning platforms are Udemy and Linkedin Learning. These platforms can help users to acquire new knowledge, skills, and expertise.

If you are unsure that which is better from Udemy VS Linkedin Learning, this review will allow you to make an informed decision.

What Is Udemy?

Udemy is an online learning platform that has been around since 2010. It is used by millions of people across the globe.

Like other platforms, Udemy has classes on a broad spectrum of different topics. However, many of these courses are focused on career-related skills.

Among the course categories on Udemy are Business, Personal Development, Lifestyle, Music, and Marketing.

Some of these courses can even lead to certification, which will further allow employees to stand out when searching for jobs.

What Is Linkedin Learning?

Linkedin is a famous social media platform that’s best known for its networking features.

Launched in 2017, Linkedin Learning is an online learning platform with a diverse range of topics that are split into 3 main sections: Business, Technology, and Creative. Yet, Linkedin Learning’s history dates back much further.

This is because the service was originally founded by Lynda Weinman in 1995. During this time, the platform was known as Lynda.com. This platform proved to be a valuable learning resource and was taken over by Linkedin in 2015.

The classes on Linkedin Learning are primarily taught in the form of educational videos. There are thousands of videos on the platform to choose from.

So if you want to learn more about business and technology, Linkedin Learning will have classes for you.

Moreover, this site can help you to develop creative skills, such as video production and animation. The site can even help you to earn certifications!

Udemy VS Linkedin Learning

Now that you are familiar with both Linkedin Learning and Udemy, we can move on to the review section.

To help us determine which of these platforms is the best, we have broken our review into different categories.

These categories review some of the most important factors that you should consider when weighing up an online learning platform.

Though it was a close call, we eventually decided which service was better. So let’s get stuck into it!

Udemy VS Linkedin Learning

Course Content

When you are choosing an online learning platform, you will likely desire a service that has a large number of courses, which should cover a range of different topics.

In terms of the number of courses, Udemy is the clear winner. It is home to more than 200,000 courses.

In comparison, Linkedin Learning has approximately 20,000 courses. While this is still an impressive number, Udemy clearly has more classes.

Meanwhile, Udemy and Linkedin Learning both have courses that cover an impressive range of subjects. As mentioned, Linkedin Learning courses are split into 3 categories, which are Creative, Technology, and Business.

On the other hand, Udemy has courses that cover a significant number of subjects. This includes both work-related skills and artistic skills. For instance, you can learn arts & crafts, gaming, and cooking skills through Udemy.

The Winner

Udemy has better course content than Linkedin Learning. Not only does it have a higher number of classes, but they cover a broader range of topics than Linkedin Learning. Therefore, Udemy is the best platform if you wish to access a diverse range of topics.

Quality Of The Content

Whilst it is important for platforms to cover a range of different subjects and to have a large number of classes, it is also vital for these services to deliver high-quality content.

A high-quality course will be taught by a knowledgeable and passionate instructor, who can simply explain complex ideas. These instructors should give you detailed information about a topic.

Moreover, you should feel as though the course was good value for money. Without this quality, your online learning experience will likely suffer.

The courses on Linkedin Learning are taught by experienced instructors. These quick yet informative videos are often of exceptional quality.

Unfortunately, Udemy cannot always guarantee that its instructors are experienced experts in a field.

This is because almost anyone can become an instructor through this platform, meaning that they are not necessarily experts.

Thankfully, the impressive number of instructors on Udemy means that it’s easy to come across knowledgeable instructors.

However, the individual course prices mean that you may end up spending money on a course that isn’t taught by a professional.

So if you want to guarantee that you are being taught by someone who knows what they are talking about, it might be worth reading the instructor bios on Udemy. Moreover, it might be worth reading through the user reviews.

The Winner

In our opinion, Linkedin Learning has a slight advantage over Udemy. Generally, the quality of its content is more consistent than Udemy. This is because Linkedin Learning vets its instructors, resulting in more informative content.

While lots of courses on Udemy are incredible, there are also lots of disappointing courses on this platform. Therefore, it’s worth reading user reviews before paying for a course on Udemy.

User-Friendliness

The user-friendliness of a learning platform can massively impact your learning experience. If the interface is not simple to use, you might not be able to make the most of the platform.

Thankfully, we liked the user interface for both Udemy and Linkedin. Both were simple to navigate. Not to mention, both had an appealing design that was welcoming to users.

Therefore, even people who are not especially tech-savvy should be able to use both Udemy and Linkedin Learning without any problems.

The Winner

It’s difficult to declare an outright winner here since both Linkedin Learning and Udemy utilize interfaces that are friendly for users.

However, if we had to pick one, we would say that Udemy has a slightly better interface design. We particularly appreciate the Categories section that makes it super simple to find a relevant course.

Certifications

Certifications are great demonstrations that you possess certain skills. Moreover, these certifications will allow you to stand out when applying for jobs.

The great news is that both Udemy and Linkedin Learning have certification features. So if you want proof that you have acquired a specific skill, this feature will be of incredible use.

When using Linkedin, any certifications that you earn can automatically appear on your profile, thus allowing you to show off your newly aquatic skills.

You should bear in mind that many of these certifications will not be accepted by universities. While they can look great on your resume, they won’t necessarily be of use in academic situations.

The Winner

This is a close contest since the use of certifications is similar on both platforms. However, Udemy wins by a slight margin, as these certifications seem to cover a broader range of topics.

Yet, you cannot overlook that Linkedin Learning also has a wide range of certifications that will appear on your account.

Registration

It should be extremely straightforward to sign up for an online service. After all, nobody wants to spend loads of time providing tons of personal details.

Luckily, Udemy doesn’t require loads of information when registering. In fact, all you will need to provide is your full name, email address, and password to create an account.

Once you have provided this information, Udemy should automatically email you. This email can be used to confirm your account. As a result, this is an incredibly hassle-free registration experience.

Though we found the Udemy registration process easy, Linkedin Learning was even simpler!

Registration is particularly straightforward if you have a pre-existing Linkedin account. This is because you can use the same email address and password to create a Linkedin Learning account.

Meanwhile, if you don’t already possess a Linkedin account, registering for this platform is still easy.

You will be redirected to a page where you can add your email address and password to create an account. It’s that simple!

The Winner

While both platforms have an uncomplicated registration process, Linkedin Learning was slightly more effortless. Linkedin Learning is especially recommended to people who already have an account with Linkedin.

Price

When it comes to Linkedin Learning, there are just two different types of memberships. Namely, you can either pay for your membership monthly or annually. Read about more Linkedin Learning price plans here.

We appreciate this, as the annual membership can save you a lot of money. However, this is quite a large commitment to make to Linkedin Learning.

Fortunately, Linkedin Learning allows members to trial the service for free. This is a 1-month free trial, which is longer than many other online learning platforms.

As a consequence, this gives you plenty of time to decide whether or not Linkedin Learning is right for you!

The Linkedin Learning membership allows you to access as many courses as you want. You can also access all of the features associated with Linkedin Premium.

In comparison, Udemy’s courses are individually priced. The prices vary significantly. Classes can cost as little as $15 but can also be as expensive as $200.

On one hand, these individual prices can be beneficial. This is because you will only have to pay for the classes that you want to undertake.

However, this won’t be a suitable payment structure for people who want to take numerous courses.

This is because you can end up spending lots of money. Not to mention, many high-quality classes are on the higher end of the price spectrum, so you can end up having to pay a lot to access the best content/

The Winner

Linkedin Learning has the superior price model. A membership grants you access to an unlimited number of classes. This is much simpler than the individual class prices used by Udemy.

Reviews

On Udemy, individual courses can be reviewed. This results in a Student feedback section for each course, which will allow you to see what star ratings the courses have earned.

Moreover, you can read through individual reviews to gauge the experience of other Udemy users for individual courses.

Likewise, Linkedin Learning also has a learner reviews section for each course.

Like Udemy, these reviews are given in the form of star ratings, with 5 as the maximum and 1 as the minimum. Plus, there is also a review section for each separate course.

The Winner

This one is a tie. Both platforms have received a large number of positive reviews.

Not to mention, we appreciate the fact that both Udemy and Linkedin learning allows users to write reviews. This gives great insight into the experience of other users.

Which Is Better?

This is one of the hardest comparison reviews that we’ve had to do, as both Linkedin Learning and Udemy are major names in the world of online education. This is for good reason, as they both have fantastic features.

Ultimately, we have chosen to give Udemy the win. Though we considered making this contest a tie, Udemy’s last library of content makes it the superior choice.

Not to mention, we appreciate that Udemy is incredibly simple to navigate.

Yet, it’s important not to overlook that Linkedin learning is also an exceptional online learning platform, so you will likely be satisfied with either service.

Final Thoughts

If you are looking for an outstanding online learning experience, both Udemy and Linkedin Learning are phenomenal platforms. Through both of these services, you can learn valuable skills and gain useful knowledge.

Though we preferred Udemy slightly more than Linkedin Learning, both services are sensational. These platforms are both worth checking out if you are interested in online learning.
