Nanodegree – What Is It?

Before we dive into today’s article, let’s have a quick recap for those that need it. A Udacity Nanodegree is a program offered by Udacity. They feature three to four courses that cover the skills needed for a specific career path or role.

Currently, there are around seventy and all the Nanodegree programs are available on Udacity in subjects like Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Autonomous Systems, Cloud Computing, Business, and Data Science.

The programs take a lot of hard work and commitment to complete. The programs feature:

  • A flexible learning program
  • Real-world projects from industry experts.
  • Career services
  • Technical mentor support

Udacity’s website is full of information about the programs they currently offer and any new programs that are due to be released. It’s worth checking out their site for more information on them and the courses in general!

Like other Udacity courses, a Nanodegree is completed in your own time. This does depend on how you are paying for the course though (more on that later).

But for students that are paying monthly, you can take the course at your own pace, paying monthly until it is completed and you have earned your Nanodegree!

While Udacity Nanodegree is not recognized by educational institutions, they carry weight in tech companies and the tech sector.

You can expect employers (especially those that create content for Udacity) to recognize your Nanodegree and the knowledge you have gained from it.

Whether your employer sends you on the course, or you take it before your new role, you are sure to see the value in a Udacity Nanodegree!

Now that we have established what a Nanodegree is, let’s move on to see what else there is to know about them and their prices!

How Much Does Udacity Nanodegree Cost?

So how much does a Nanodegree cost? Let’s get into the question that brought you here today! Well, these courses aren’t cheap. A Nanodegree can be quite expensive, but it’s worth remembering that you are paying for industry-leading education!

The professionally taught courses recognized in their industry are an expensive route, but one that is worth considering.

It’s worth noting that not all Nanodegrees cost the same. Some will be cheaper than others, and some will be more expensive. The cost varies depending on the course and who has created the content.

If the course is only a month long (like the Monetization Strategy Course and Action and Retention Strategy) that runs for just one month. These are cheaper, with a monthly cost of $249.

Plus, even though the courses are expensive, there are lots of payment options for you to choose from! Let’s take a look at these options now to help you learn more about them and find the right one for you.

Pay As You Go

First, we have the monthly pay-as-you-go option. With a monthly cost of £399 a month for most courses, you can work at your own pace and continue to pay for the course until you complete it.

The pay-as-you-go option is perfect for those that want full flexibility when it comes to learning.

X Months Access

The second payment option Udacity offers is their X months access. This is an estimated month’s access based on how long they anticipate the course to take. It might look like, ‘5 months access,’ with a price listed below, say, $1000.

This option allows you to pay for the entire course upfront and work on it within the estimated time frame. It’s a good option for those that don’t want to factor the course into their monthly budget.

It can often work out cheaper too than the pay-as-you-go option, so if you have the money in the bank, it’s worth considering paying for the course upfront.

When you use this method you will have access to the course for the number of months labeled. Should you need to take longer to complete the course, you can switch to the monthly pay-as-you-go option.

You still get the flexibility to complete the course in your own time, but can save a bit of money too with the X months access payment option!

What To Consider When Choosing Your Payment Plan

When choosing between these payment options, there are a few things you should consider. Let’s take a look at them now to help you decide which payment is the right one for you.

  • How much time can you dedicate every week or month? Is it better to choose the monthly payments if you need longer?
  • Can you afford full access immediately? Is this better for your budget?
  • Would the pay-as-you-go plan inspire you to work faster? Or would a deadline of the X months access inspire you to complete the course on time?

When selecting the plan, it’s worth keeping these questions and considerations in mind. The option you select should work best for you and your lifestyle. If you think a deadline would be a good incentive and you have the money, then go for it!

If not, why not spread the cost across a few months and complete the course at a pace that suits you? The choice is yours here and is not one we can make for you!

Is There A Free Trial Option?

Yes! For those of you that don’t want to commit or spend your money yet, there are free trials you can access on some of Udacity’s Nanodegree programs!

The free trials are a good way to trial the program before parting with your hard-earned cash. It’s also a good way to see if you will enjoy the course!

The free trial will provide you with access to all the learning material, videos, and quizzes, just like a paid member. The free trial gives you 30 days of access for free!

At the end of the trial you will be switched over to a payment plan, so make sure you cancel beforehand if you don’t want to pay!

You can access Udacity’s free trial on their site when you register for your account.

Does Udacity Offer Free Courses?

Yes! Udacity’s site is packed full of free courses for you to try! There are currently over 190 free and paid courses on Udacity for you to try for free. The courses on offer for free are all part of the Nanodegree program.

You can try out some courses for free, and if you enjoy them, upgrade to the Nanodegree program. You can then pay for the rest of the courses needed and complete your Nanodegree program!

It’s a good option for those on a budget too, as you won’t need to pay for as many online courses as usual.

With free courses, their content is often limited. You might not get access to every part of the course as you would as a paid member. However, it is a good way to try the course to see if it is worth you spending your money on or not!
