Who is RuPaul?

RuPaul Andre Charles is an American model, actor, singer, television personality, singer, and author. Born in San Diego, California, RuPaul later moved to Atlanta, where he pursued a career in performing arts. Eventually settling in New York City, he became a popular fixture on the nightclub scene.

RuPaul rose to prominence in the New York club scene while donning elaborate face makeup and gowns. In 1993, he released the dance-pop album Supermodel of the World, which included the hit song “Supermodel (You Better Work).”
The song became a surprise crossover success after it was featured in a music video in which he danced about in a blonde wig and regal ensembles. The song’s popularity resulted in RuPaul’s roles in several films, including “The Brady Bunch Movie,” “Crooklyn,” “To Wong Foo,” “Blue In the Face,” and “Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar.”
RuPaul became the first MAC Cosmetics brand spokesperson, raising millions of dollars for the MAC AIDS Fund and becoming the company’s first man to launch a cosmetics campaign. In 1996, RuPaul hosted a VH1 show called “The RuPaul Show,” which aired over 100 episodes with co-host Michelle Visage.

In 2019, RuPaul debuted his talk show and a UK version of “Drag Race.” He also co-created the Netflix TV series “AJ and the Queen” in 2020, playing a drag queen traveling across America with a 10-year-old girl accompanying him.
RuPaul also hosts and co-produces “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” a reality television show where “America’s Next Drag Superstar” is crowned each season. The show was credited with reviving RuPaul’s career and has won him numerous Emmys for hosting the series from 2016 to 2021. From 2018 through 2021, the show received the Emmy for best competition show category.
His TV show “Drag Race” already has 12 seasons and has inspired some spin-off series, like “RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars.” RuPaul also became a featured host of shows like “Good Work,” “Skin Wars: Fresh Paint,” and “Gay for Play Game Show.” He also served as a judge for the CBS global competition series, “The World’s Best.”
