Just keep on scrolling and know how to skip online school!

8 Excuses To Skip Online School

As we have already touched upon above, skipping online classes is not something that we condone or recommend that you do.

That being said, there are some instances where you simply might just need to take a day off, or have something occur unexpectedly that prevents you from attending class.

For those rare instances, the following excuses should work for you. Let’s take a look at some of the best and easiest ways to skip online school below:

Say You Have An Internet Connectivity Problem

The easiest way to skip class for the day is to let your tutor/teacher know ahead of time that there is an internet connection issue on your end.

We recommend that you let them know beforehand as emailing that you have a Wi-Fi connection issue during the class will prove that your internet is, in fact, working just fine.

So, for this reason, we recommend that you let your teacher know prior to the class that you are struggling with the internet.

Along with that, letting your teacher know before the class starts that you aren’t going to be able to make it due to a connection issue shows proactivity and politeness which will reflect well on you.

As you will have taken the time to inform them beforehand, this will make sure that they are aware of what is going on, and why you are unable to attend the class that day.

A Family Responsibility

Even though saying that the internet is down is one of the oldest tricks in the book, if you don’t want to use that excuse – another great option available to you to consider is a family responsibility.

Perhaps you could say that a family member needed you to drive them somewhere at the last minute, or maybe you could say that a sibling needed some help with school work.

Oftentimes, if you already have a good attendance record and you have a good relationship with your teacher, you should find that this excuse works just fine.

Remember, though, that using this excuse more than once might cause it to become an issue with your teacher.

Have An Unexpected Illness

Another way that you can get out of online class for the day is to let your teacher know that you have become ill during the night or previous day, and that you will therefore be unable to attend as you are not well enough to participate.

As you are trying to get out of an online class, you need to make sure that you specify to your teacher that you are unable to even get yourself out of bed, otherwise your teacher might ask you to consider attending the zoom and simply listening.

If they try to encourage you to attend, then you might need to overshare some of your symptoms so that your teacher gets the idea.

Although, for the most part, simply letting your teacher know that you are unwell and not feeling up to class that day should be more than satisfactory for you to skip it.

Accidentally “Forget” Class

If you don’t want to send your teacher an email with a false excuse for skipping class that day, then one way that you can get out of it is to accidentally forget that you had class to attend.

If you already have a great attendance record, accidentally forgetting to attend class on one occasion shouldn’t be such a big deal, and your teacher will most likely not have an issue with the accident.

That being said, you should make sure that you inform your teacher afterwards that you accidentally forgot to attend class, and also offer to make up for the missed class in your own time.

Say You Have A Doctors Appointment

This is one of the best ways that you can get out of a class!

In order for this to be effective, you will need to make sure that you have informed your teacher ahead of time that you are going to be unable to attend class on the day that you want to skip due to a doctor’s appointment that you need to attend.

For the most part, you should find that most teacher’s will not pry and ask you for a doctor’s note – but, do keep in mind that this is a possibility that could occur.

Have An Unexpected Work Shift

As a student, it is very common to work alongside your studies.

That being said, there may be instances where you are called into work at the last minute to support the team due to a missing staff member or influx of customers.

In order for this to work on your teacher, you should let them know the morning before the class begins, and explain that this is a one off situation and you will make up for the time that you missed in your own time.

More often than not, you should find that your teacher is understanding of this situation.

Turn Off Zoom Camera

If you don’t want to attend online class but you don’t want to get in trouble for missing a day, then why don’t you consider turning off your zoom camera?

Many teachers allow their students to turn their cameras off, and if you have a teacher that is cool with this, then turning off your camera is a good way to “skip” without actually skipping class.

This is also an ideal option for anyone that isn’t feeling up to participating in the class, but still wants to listen.

Tell The Truth

Tell The Truth

Last but certainly not least, the final way that you can get out of online class for the day is to simply tell your teacher the truth.

If you want to take a mental health day for yourself, or you’re simply in need of a day off due to burn out – then why don’t you consider sharing this with your teacher?

Oftentimes, they will be more than understanding and will approve of your decision to take the day off, all while appreciating your honesty.

Of course, if you don’t feel comfortable with letting your teacher know the reason behind wanting to take a day off, this is totally understandable and one of the options that we have shared with you above will work just as well.

How To Stop Skipping Class?

Of course, even though taking a day off here and there isn’t such a bad thing, if you are finding that skipping class is becoming a norm for you – the good news is that there are plenty of ways to get yourself back on track, and we’re here to help.

We’re now going to be sharing with you some helpful tips that will help you stay motivated and proactive throughout your studies – regardless of whether you’re in high school or college.

Let’s take a look at them below:

Make Sure You Have A Great Sleep Schedule

This is one of the best ways to make sure that you are motivated, focused and ready to take on anything during the day…and that includes class.

A lack of sleep is one of the biggest culprits for not attending school (both in-person and online) which is why making sure you are sticking to a sleep schedule is vital.

If you struggle with maintaining your sleep schedule, why don’t you consider creating a sleep routine that you can follow each night?

A sleep routine has been proven to “tell” the brain that it is bedtime, which can often promote healthy, consistent sleep each night.

Stay On Top Of Homework And Independent Study

This is another way you can encourage yourself to attend class.

When you aren’t doing homework or studying outside of class, it can be easy to feel anxious or unconfident with participating in class, especially if you have a teacher that likes to encourage group discussions.

That being said, you should make sure that you are managing your time outside of class, and scheduling plenty of study sessions, and of course, getting your homework done on time, too.

Create A Habit Tracker

Another way that you can make sure that you aren’t skipping class is by making a habit tracker and sticking to it.

A habit tracker is an awesome way to encourage proactive behavior through tracking progress of healthy habits.

So, if you want to make sure that you are attending your classes everyday, you should put this on your habit tracker, so you can track your progress.

This will then, in turn, encourage you to make sure that you are attending your classes!

Reward Yourself For Attending Class

This is one of the most effective ways that you can encourage yourself to attend class regularly!

If you are finding that there is a particular class that you really aren’t enjoying, then why don’t you consider setting up a rewards scheme for yourself?

This doesn’t have to be anything big or fancy, but rewarding yourself for attending class each week is a sure fire way to boost your attendance.

For example, perhaps you can take yourself for your favorite coffee afterwards, or maybe you can buy yourself something that you’ve had your eye on the past week.

Whatever it is, rewarding yourself for attending class is the easiest way to motivate yourself to attend.

Make Friends/Form A Study Group

This last tip is a great way to motivate yourself to attend online classes, all while ensuring that you have a more fulfilling learning experience as a whole.

If you don’t have friends in the class that you are finding yourself skipping, then why don’t you consider making small talk prior to the class starting or even asking everyone to form a group chat?

Alternatively, if you already have friends within the class that you are skipping, why don’t you consider asking them if they would be willing to form a study group with you?

This will help you to stay on track of your studies, all while ensuring that you (and your friends in your study group) will be able to hold you accountable should you choose to skip.

The Bottom Line

There we have it! You’ve made it to the end.

Of course, even though it’s totally okay to take a day off here and there, regularly skipping class is something that we do not encourage.

That being said, if you are finding yourself in this boat, then we recommend that you check out some of the tips that we have shared with you above to help boost your attendance.
