How To Make A Facebook-Inspired Activity Stream On Buddyboss

How To Make A Facebook-Inspired Activity Stream On Buddyboss

Personalizing and crafting an awesome Elearning website with better features is one of the easiest things around nowadays if you know how.

What is even better is how many sites can be easily integrated with other sites and social media profiles.

So, what if you want to mesh your Facebook into your WordPress and Buddyboss profiles?

Well, luckily this is doable.

You can even bring in Facebook-inspired activity streams onto Buddyboss.

But how do you do it, and what makes this stuff even possible?

Well, let us tell you all about it!

Find out how to modify activity stream icons in Buddyboss theme below!

What Is Buddyboss?

Let’s start with introducing Buddyboss for those who are not familiar with it.

Buddyboss is an advanced plugin used for creating online communities on the WordPress dashboard. (Check out our ‘BuddyBoss review‘)

Using this you will have the full flexibility and control to sell online courses and memberships, and even create central hubs for training, or launch a mobile app!

It centers around connecting people, and by using this WordPress theme plugin you can boost your brand, introduce members to other like-minded people, encourage communities to learn today, and gather feedback.

Buddyboss is a great tool for allowing members to make more valuable connections, earn rewards, and take part in group discussions.

You can also generate business revenue by selling access.

Facebook-Type User Activity Stream For BuddyBoss

What is even cooler than being able to open up a whole new world for your community?

Well, of course, it is allowing you to have Facebook-style user activity streams on the Buddyboss platform.

You can allow your users to have an experience much like Facebook activity-type streams with this custom post type. It shows all activity updates and post-updates on a user’s network, on user profiles, and more in one place.

This is a cool feature that happens by aggregating and showing all the relevant activities in a simple place.

You can convert your activity feed directory ‘All Activities’ tab to only show the updated logged-in network of a user, or add an extra tab and show the network stream there too. (See also ‘How To Replace BuddyBoss Activity Icons?’)

It is a step in the right place, and can be used with another third-party plugin to make your own, unique social network!

Oh, and of course, the best part is that you can see yours, your friends, and your groups update all on one page, just like on Facebook!

What Are The Features?

So, what are the features of this? How does it work?

Well, it was initially a BuddyPress feature, but this has followed through Buddyboss as well.

It has features such as the following:

  • Clicking on a username will automatically redirect you to their stream.
  • Aggregating and providing familiar pages to users where all relevant social activity is aggregated in one neat place.
  • Limitations of the view to logged-in users for their network, which is just the same as any other social network, make it appear as the most popular social network.
  • There is an ‘All Activity’ in the directory which can be converted to list only users’ own network updates in a single stream.

Configuration

It functions very similarly to any other social network, acting like Twitter, Facebook, or even Tumblr, but on BuddyBoss for your site’s community!

If you wanted to configure this then you can access the settings from your Dashboard via:

Settings > Facebook Like Activity.

From the settings, you can enable the user network activity stream on the profile or use the ‘All Activities’ menu name in the directory for members.

Should you enable the stream on your profile you should also be able to customize the slug as well for extra personalization!

What About A BuddyBoss Facebook ‘Wall’?

Well, this is technically the same thing, but if we are honest, it has had an update.

You see the BuddyBoss theme for BuddyPress (yes it still technically exists) adds a Facebook wall to your profile.

You post statuses, reply on walls, and embed videos on walls.

It’s all very much like Facebook!

BuddyPress can be confusing though, and it is not exactly like Facebook, as the mentioned ‘@’ system requires a learning curve.

However, if your users know Facebook, then they should be able to get around this just fine.

BuddyBoss has made it easier to get to grips with this system though, and it is so easily integrated, it is almost an automatic feature.

You Can Connect BuddyBoss & Facebook!

This is something we are wildly excited about however, sure, it is still so cool that you can have a Facebook-style wall on BuddyBoss, but being able to connect it to Facebook is a whole other can of fish!

You can connect BuddyBoss to Facebook Pages and connect Facebook Pages to BuddyBoss using just a simple interface and 0 code!

It can be done in less than 10 minutes!

There is an interface known as the Uncanny Automator which works perfectly by allowing you to create very powerful workflow automation to save you time and money, increase engagement, and create a unique and advanced user experience.

What Do You Need To Do This?

Weirdly enough, it is very simple.

We assume you already have a WordPress site. So, now you need to download and install the plugin for BuddyBoss if you do not already have it.

Once you have done this, get the Facebook pages you want to link it to, and then download and install the Facebook Pages plug-in as well.

Next, you need to get that cool interface known as Uncanny Automator and install it as well.

Finally, craft a recipe to connect BuddyBoss to Facebook Pages using the Uncanny Automator interface.

Turn it on and watch your dreams come true.

This is so simple, and may even be simpler than using the Facebook-like feature of Buddyboss.

We admit that you can create Facebook-Like streams on Buddyboss is cool, but in reality, how many people would rather just use the social media network they are familiar with, instead of constantly using a new one?

There is no replacing the Facebook giant, so this new and innovative idea is probably the best way to still get that online community integrated into your site but without the challenge of fighting against the superpower that is Facebook’s’ social network.

We aren’t biased, but this just seems the better way to go.

Yet, we also love this option because you can connect Buddyboss and Facebook pages to other services and plugins to create even more streamlined workflows for your whole site.

These are just some of the most useful ones you can connect to!

  • Affiliate WP.
  • Airtable.
  • BuddyBoss
  • BuddyPress
  • Convert Kit.
  • Easy Affiliate.
  • Facebook Groups.
  • Facebook Pages.
  • Formidable Forms.
  • Google Calendar.
  • Google Sheets.
  • Instagram.
  • LearnDash.
  • LinkedIn.
  • OpenAI.
  • Popup Maker.
  • Slack.
  • Trello.
  • Twitter.
  • Upsell Plugin
  • WhatsApp.
  • WooCommerce.
  • WordPress Core.
  • Zapier.

Integrating these are sure to fill out your community, and site, and broaden your horizons while making everything easier for you!

Overall

While you can create a Facebook-like Activity Stream on BuddyBoss, we also recommend considering integrating programs and pieces of software into BuddyBoss as well.

Having all these tools at your fingertips makes everything more manageable and exciting for you and your community!
