Striking Mexican Teachers Attacked
Filed under: Labor by Leo Casey @ 4:18 pm
News accounts from Oaxaca, the capital city of the southern Mexican province by the same name, report that thousands of state police launched full scale attacks on striking teachers encamped in the city square. There are unconfirmed reports from union sources of a number of fatalities, including children. The Reuters story is here, and the Toronto Globe and Mail story is here.
Protests against the attack on the Mexican teachers can be made by calling Mexican consulates, and demanding that the strike be resolved through negotiation, not through the use of force. The Mexican Consulate in New York City can be reached at 212-217-6476. The Mexican Embassy in Washington can be reached at 202-728-1600. For other consulates, go to the Online Directory of Mexican Consulates.

Mr. Casey;
Who does the classroom teacher call about the attack of the DOE on our schools? The added stress for ungrievable LIF, 90-day unpaid suspensions, mindless micromanagment, exstended school days, a 190 day school year, and the unprofessional activities that we are forced to do?
Oh, I forgot you are part of the problem, not the solution.

You are an embarassment to New York City’s public school teachers. Teachers are being murdered in Mexico, and all you can do is look for an opportunity to attack the UFT.
